I'm Casey. For the past eight years I've lived in Astoria, Queens and worked in Manhattan. During that time, the Big Apple has been nothing but good to me. I've been fortunate to find a job I love and meet the man of my dreams.
Moving here right after college graduation, in many ways I feel like I've grown-up in NYC. I'm not sure at what point along the way I became a bonafide adult, but as my husband, Lyle, and I begin our 30s we're starting to think more and more about the future of our family.
Creeping into the 28% tax bracket, I would financially categorize our household as firmly middle class. Although we have been able to strike a balance between paying the bills and living a fun lifestyle, the prospect of buying a house still seems woefully out of reach. That said, our current 650 sf, 2-br rental apartment just won't cut the mustard forever.
So, that brings us to the hunt. Wheresmy.house will document Lyle and my's exploration of neighborhoods in NYC's five boroughs and beyond in an attempt to define our own family's affordable American dream. We invite you to take part in the journey with us, crib any lessons learned and help characterize the future of the young, middle-class in the United States.
